Currently Mike serves as Western Europe Area Leader. In this role, he supervisors and mentors 12 City Team Leaders (which includes 35 missionary families) in the Netherlands, Great Britian, Belgium, Austria, Portugal, France, Spain, Italy and Montreal, Canada.
Why Europe? Simply because Europe is desperate for Christ. With a population of roughly 800 million people, Europe is estimated to have less than 2% evangelical believers. Churches are empty. Nations are secular. It is being called the “new dark continent”.
Europe has seen a dramatic shift from its Christian heritage of Martin Luther and other church reformers of history. Much as they have tried, Europeans are finding that secularism, modern advancements, culture and technology do not meet the spiritual needs of the people. Young and old share a sense of longing for something that will fill their sense of emptiness. Europe needs to know and experience the love of Christ once again.
ReachGlobal Europe staff are involved in a variety of ministries that all aim to multiply healthy churches in Europe. These ministries include church planting, holistic or compassion ministries, theological education, youth ministry, music ministry and anti-trafficking. They work alongside other ministries already on the ground, forming partnerships with others as needed to spread the gospel and disciple new believers. It is their vision to see European hearts won for God’s kingdom, transforming their lives and the culture of their cities for the glory of God.
Because Mike’s teams are spread across Europe and (surprisingly) because it actually costs less to live in the US than in Western Europe, the Davis family is currently located state-side in Wheaton, IL. From here, Mike uses technological means such as e-mail and Skype to lead his team – helping with placement and transition of personnel; leading teams in creating and managing goals (short, mid and long term); coaching, mentoring and managing team members; and also recruiting a new generation of missionaries to enter the field for the first time. Mike is also “on the ground” in Europe – traveling there often to meet with his teams and work with them toward the goal of spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.
