Deacons are responsible for ministering to the practical needs within the Church. This includes meeting both the needs of members of the church body as well as overseeing the physical maintenance of the buildings and property.
Qualifications for Deacon are outlined primarily in Acts 6:1-6 and 1 Timothy 3:8-13
Bill was born in Tracy, CA . Attending church and parochial school growing up he felt there “must be more to God than this.” Joining the army just out of high school, he saw a lot of traumatic things that left him feeling dead inside, the depression wearing on when he became a critical care nurse once he was out of the service. It wasn’t until 1984 that a co-worker shared Christ with him and the healing began. Accepting Christ, he experienced joy and peace for the first time in his life. In 1988, when he and Linda were married, she came with a daughter, who has since blessed them with two grandsons. Both Bill and Linda serve in our Church, even with Bill’s debilitating auto-immune illness, his desire as a Deacon is to “serve and minister to the body in the love of Christ, to encourage, exhort, teach and minister to…making the most of opportunities the Lord provides.” A favorite verse is 2 Chronicles 16:9 The eyes of the Lord searches throughout the whole earth for those whose heart is fully committed to Him that He might strengthen them. “Our Lord is faithful, He gives to us all things that we might give what we have received freely from Him to others so they might be blessed and know Him.This should be the desire and mission of all that know and love Him.”
It took a near death experience in 1998 during a surgery for Reese to decide that following after God was how he needed to live his life. Having lived in Tuolumne County since 1967, Reese pretty much grew up in the area but only began attending Twain Harte Bible Church in 2010. He and his wife, Nina have been married since 1989, and now live in Soulsbyville. Both have become active participants in our weekly Bible studies and church activities. When asked why he became a Deacon, he responded by saying he accepted the nomination to become a Deacon because he feels it is a calling of God for him. It brings joy for him to be helping around the church, as well as helping other people, using his background in construction. or in whatever way he can.
Steve and his wife Chery moved to Sugar Pine in 2004. Steve retired in 2008 after working for the State of California for 28 years. It was during college that Steve grew to desire more from life and learned that Jesus Christ offered the grace and fulfillment he couldn’t find anywhere else, accepting Him as his Lord and Savior. Steve has managed to remain active during his retirement, working as an EMT, and volunteering with the Twain Harte Fire Department. He’s also an amateur radio operator, is part of the local jazz scene as a musician, plays bass and sings as a member of Twain Harte Bible Church’s worship team. Steve loves the outdoors, photography, flying, working with or on computers, and especially loves going on dates or watching old movies with his wife. They have a daughter, Jennifer Darrow, who lives in Sunnyvale, CA. Steve’s favorite Bible verse is Isaiah 40:31; “…but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
Merritt grew up in Oakdale, California, having moved to this area in 1962. He retired from the Forest Service in 1995. He is now co-owner of Sonora Cyclery in East Sonora. Merritt has three daughters and six grandchildren. He accepted Christ in 1980 and later served as a Deacon in a church in Oakdale. He wanted to find a church closer to home. That is when he found Twain Harte Bible Church in 2008. He was asked to join the Deacon Board in 2016. He desires to help the church in anyway he can. He tries to follow, as a guide for Christian living, Ephesians 5:1-21 and Galatians 5:16-26.
Larry was born and raised in San Jose, CA which is where he and his wife Patricia met in 1997. Growing up, he spent many summers visiting and camping in the Stanislaus Forest. In December 2005, he decided to move their family up to the area to make a fresh start. After many years of struggling in his life, in his marriage and in leading his family and trying to make things work without Jesus, he realized that what he needed to do was put Jesus first and foremost. After he asked the Lord into his life, things started to fall into place and progressively got better. His decision to make this change has benefited the entire family including all 5 of their children, their daughter-in-law, and their 3 grandchildren. He and his family became active members of Twain Harte Bible Church, where he was also baptized and was able to participate in the baptism of both his wife and his youngest daughter. Their daughter-in-law also accepted the Lord at Twain Harte Bible. Things in their life together have changed so much since they first started attending Twain Harte Bible, that both Larry and his wife, Patricia, now live and work for Jenness Park Christian Camp, and both he his wife and daughter all actively work and participate in the church. Larry has worked in construction, automotive, and a multitude of other areas where he has used his skills, and is currently working in maintenance at the camp. He decided to join the team of Deacons in order to use his God-given skills to help the church because he felt that God was calling him. He enjoys camping, hiking/backpacking, hanging out and enjoying food with family, and, because of his servant’s heart, he really enjoys helping others. Some of his favorite verses are Ephesians 5:20, 1 Peter 3:7, Ephesians 4:2, James 5:16, Psalm 5:8, Hebrews 10:25, and Psalm 118:14-17
Grant and his wife, Sandy were married the day after Christmas in 1967. After retiring, they moved to Twain Harte from the Tri Valley and now live in Jupiter in the middle of the national forest where they are stewards of a small piece of God’s earth. They love to serve others, travel in their travel trailer, and spend time with family. With projects at the church property, and two adult daughters who have their “daddy-do” lists, plus having guardianship over a teenager, they manage to keep very busy. Quite often you’ll find Grant hard at work on any of the many maintenance projects taking place at the church.

He has joined the Deacon Board to help in any way he can with the building up of the Twain Harte Bible Church, it’s members, and it’s facilities.
